How long have you been in business?
Vacu-Duct has been in business since 1987.
Why should I clean my ducts, I just had a new air cleaner installed?
You can have the most sophisticated air cleaner installed, but if you neglect to clean the ducts, the air cleaner cannot do the job it was intended to do. The air cleaner is installed on the return main duct near the furnace so it will filter the air and then the clean air enters the furnace by the blower and is circulated through the individual register pipes that are layered with dirt and debris so the end result, therefore, is not clean air. In effect, it is like drinking distilled water out of a dirty glass.
Do you disinfect and deodorize?
Yes, we can, but we do not recommend the use of any chemicals and highly caution against the use of disinfectants and deodorizers. Toxic fumes and vapours with flowery scents circulating throughout your home for weeks on end could be hazardous to your health and life threatening for someone who is sensitive.
Do you seal the ducts?
No, with our equipment and expertise we access the entire system and get all the dirt out so there is nothing left behind to seal in or slow down the air flow.
What comes out?
In brand new homes the ducts are cleaned to eliminate the drywall dust and construction material e.g. drywall pieces, nails, tools, wood pieces, pop cans, beer bottles, lunch bags and whatever else drops in or is swept down the vents. In older homes it is not uncommon to encounter a buildup of dirt and debris 1-3 inches thick inside the ducts including construction material, tools, pet hairs, playing cards, toys, magazines, clothes, dead insects, spiders, mice, birds, cats and squirrels. One rare request was to retrieve eight $50.00 bills which a young child had dropped into a register. The bills were embedded in dirt for three weeks, but yes, with a lot of spot checking, we retrieved the eight bills for the customer.
How long does it take?
The average sized home takes about 1 to 2 hours.
Does your cleaning process create a mess in my house?
No, there is no dirt or dust that enters the indoor environment being cleaned.
Does it really make a difference?
Most definitely, the improvement in air quality is immediate.
How often should my ducts be cleaned?
Every three to five years should be fine. The frequency depends on factors such as… are you sensitive or do you have allergies, the location of your home, do you have pets such as cats, dogs or birds, do you smoke, have you renovated, do you have central air, do you have an effective air cleaner in place, etc.
